AFSCME Local 1624 has a long-standing practice of providing financial assistance to children of our union members to pursue higher education. Our scholarship program has been enhanced in recent years to provide additional assistance to our growing membership. This year, our Local will award five $1500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors of active members. The 2019 Scholarship applications are available for download in PDF or Word format below. Scholarships may be awarded to graduating high school Seniors of active AFSCME Local 1624 members enrolling in a University, College, Junior College or Trade School in the 2019 Fall semester.
Of the scholarship awards granted, one will be reserved for applicants to an accredited trade school. If there are no trade school applicants, then it will be available for another University or College applicant.
Only one (1) applicant per family will be selected.
The scholarship will be payable to the awardees chosen university upon proof of enrollment in the fall semester of the year the award is granted.
Application deadline is Friday, April 30th 2019. Applications should be delivered to the AFSCME Local 1624 office located at 1812 Centre Creek, #310 Austin, TX 78754. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Friday, April 27th 2018. Please be sure to include your sealed school transcript with your application.
The AFSCME Scholarship Committee will review all applications and will conduct interviews of all eligible applicants on between May 6th - May 8th. We will call all eligible applicants that have turned in applications to schedule your interview time. Interviews are held @ the AFSCME Local 1624 office on Centre Creek Drive. We start the interview process around 5:00 - 5:30pm in the evening and finish around 8pm depending on the number of applicants.
